It's a bit later than anticipated, but here is the in-home newborn session that follows Sarah and Michael's maternity session (which you can read about here).
I don't do newborn photography very often, but when I get the opportunity, I love taking a more candid approach. I adore seeing the family together in their most comfortable and intimate space, where they can snuggle close and take their time. This session was special to me. Sarah and Michael brought me in to meet their son; he's just the cutest. He was so bright-eyed and surprisingly smiley throughout the session. There were a few moments when he looked at me in bewilderment, but that's pretty common. I'm a stranger with a weird thing that makes weird sounds. I get why babies would be confused. But he did so well.
I couldn't have asked for a better setting for this family's session. We started in the living room with its neutral colors and their red flannels. Their home has this great big window for natural light to come in and I got to use my new soft box for the first time to help fill in some extra light. At this time, baby boy was still getting used to me and wasn't quit sure about everything going on. We took time to make sure he was comfortable. After a bit, we headed upstairs to the nursery and I was blown away by how colorful and beautiful it was. Sarah and Michael (along with help from some family) painted that wall mural. So impressive! With the natural light coming in through the side window, I decided to skip the flash and I'm so glad I did. These are some of my favorite pictures!
I am incredibly happy for Sarah and Michael. They've been waiting for their baby and he is perfect. I'm glad I got to see this family's love grow.
