I held a few contests in the beginning of the year, one of which happened to be an engagement session giveaway to a couple who had gotten engaged during the holidays. Justin and Stephanie won the raffle and we were finally able to hike down to Settlers Cabin Waterfall for their adventure engagement session.
Settlers Cabin Waterfall is a little gem hidden in the woods in the middle of a 5k hiking trail. It's a trail I've personally hiked probably five times now and, boy, do I have some stories. I can only really recall the trail being dry once, and this wasn't that time. It rained the night before our session, so I warned Stephanie to wear some boots and I went out to buy my own hiking boots (the last time I hiked this trail with my family, I nearly lost my shoes in the mud). We met more than an hour earlier than I usually would for golden hour, packed all my gear in a backpack and spent the next 30 minutes or so hiking the trail and getting to know each other.
Justin and Stephanie were both working at the Rue21 distribution center when they met, he as the IT guy and she as the analyst. Stephanie seemed to have computer problems quite often, so Justin had to come up and fix the issues, but it wasn't a love at first sight as you would think. Justin said the first thing he noticed about Stephanie was her distinctive attitude, which apparently did not make a good first impression on him. He wasn't gaining any points with her either. Stephanie described her initial opinion of Justin as being somewhat of a jerk, the very essence of the bad boy persona.
They both laughed.
Eventually, they grew on each other and have been inseparable ever since they stopped being coworkers. Being away from her caused Justin to realized how much he enjoyed Stephanie's presence, but it wasn't him who made the first move. Stephanie actually asked him out on their first date. Spending non-working time together, they discovered that they have a lot of common interests and life goals. Despite their somewhat rocky beginning, they are now a united front on the important matters, they always make each other laugh, and are deeply in love.
Justin and Stephanie will be getting married next year at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, which is their favorite vacation destination. They envision a future together in the south, in warm weather, surrounded by their dogs.
