Kaylee + Ryan | Pittsburgh Wedding

With Kaylee and Ryan's Pittsburgh wedding, our 2019 wedding season ended and we are so thankful. Not that our season ended, but that it ended with such a wonderful couple. When I first met with these high school sweethearts, their love story resonated so much with me because of the similarities we had in common. While Kaylee was getting ready, there was some talk going on between the family members about the proposal. They said that no one was surprised when Ryan proposed. They'd been together for so long that everyone had been expecting a proposal for a while.

"It's about time!"

I had to chuckle to myself at that. It reminded me of my own proposal story and how my parents weren't surprised. They had known it was coming for a long time. Parents always know.

Kaylee had us come to Hyatt Place Pittsburgh Airport, where she and her bridesmaids were going to be getting ready. Her mom and Ryan's mom were also there. We arrived just after Phylicia and Lisa, who were doing hair and makeup. They began setting up their stations and I was given the bride's details to begin styling. The morning was incredibly relaxed as each of the ladies got their hair and makeup styled and Kaylee laughed with those around her. Her dad and baby brothers came down to visit a few times and it was incredibly sweet to watch Kaylee with her brothers.

When her dad went for a Starbucks run, Rich ran out to meet Ryan at Deluca's Diner for breakfast. After they had all eaten, they moved their party to the hotel. When he arrived, his sister met him with a hug and Kaylee's sister handed him a letter, which he later read in his room after getting dressed.

Kaylee read her letter from Ryan while getting her hair styled. Her eyes filled with tears, but she refused to let them streak her freshly applied makeup. With her hair and makeup finished, she had some Christina Aguilera vibes going on and her Magic Moment Bridal Studio gown was absolutely perfect for her. Kaylee looked amazing!

As soon as Kaylee was in her dress, Rich and I headed straight to St. John of God Parish for the ceremony. This church was almost overwhelmingly big, but it had such beautiful architecture and made for a lovely location for a wedding. There was such a sweet little moment when Ryan and Kaylee looked at each other and then interlaced their fingers while the priest was talking. I love those little moments.

I ended up on the party bus while Rich headed to Celebrations for cocktail hour. He was originally going to follow us to the overlook, but he ended up at the wrong one and called to see where I'd gone. He decided to head to the reception early and help get the lights set up for me while I did wedding party group shots and portraits.

On the ride up to the overlook, the wedding party blasted music and passed around a bottle of whiskey. The celebrating continued out to the overlook where we started with fun group shots and some goofy candids. As the sky became more and more purple, I threw on my flash and got a few portraits of the newlyweds before we made our way to the reception.

I arrived at Celebrations Bar & Grill and immediately went to meet up with Rich and let the DJ know that everyone had arrived and was ready. When Kaylee and Ryan were introduced, they came strutting in and dancing and then flowed right into their first dance and then their cake cutting. Ryan displayed some fancy knife wielding and then bowed to the gleeful guests after he and Kaylee smashed cake up each other's noses.

The dancing was led by DJ Randy, who was awesome. He really knew how to get a party going. And Nancy Mundy did a fantastic job of planning everything. I loved all the little moments that we were able to capture during this wedding, including Kaylee taking a moment of solace to hold a baby and a photo sequence of Kaylee and Ryan sharing a passionate kiss while her dad lands a kiss on a friend in the background. It had such comedic timing. Near the end of the night, a Dave Matthews song came on and Ryan insisted that Rich and I put the cameras down to share a dance. When the groom insists, you oblige him. It's been a long time since Rich and I shared a dance at a wedding, but it was a nice change of pace. After the the cleanup was finished, we followed the wedding party into the bar next door for a few candid shots before heading out ourselves.

I am so happy that I got to share in the celebration with Kaylee and Ryan and their wonderful group of family and friends. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
