"Well, if you go when the snowflakes storm,
When the rivers freeze and summer ends,
Please see if she's wearing a coat so warm,
To keep her from the howlin' winds."
—Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash, Girl from the North Country
A Bethany Alumni Wedding on a Colorful October Day
Alex and Nicole married at Sigma Nu House at Bethany College in Bethany, WV. It was a beautiful October day with perfect weather and vibrant leaves. I began the day at a cabin at Oglebay to get candids of Nicole as she got ready. Her friends helped with her hair and makeup and her bridal gown was from Blue Sage Bridal. She looked gorgeous! And the floral arrangements by and were beautiful. From there, I left to head out for Bethany College. I ran into a bit of a snag on the way to the ceremony location, with my cell service disappearing and my GPS refusing to work. Fortunately, I ran into a couple who happened to be guests at the wedding and they helped me find my way to Sigma Nu House. While there, I got some detail shots and a few of Alex finishing up getting ready. He looked pretty sharp in his suit from Joseph A. Bank. Then Nicole had a first look with her dad and then with Alex. Tears were flowing and it was a beautiful moment.
The ceremony and reception were held all in one location and I adored the beautiful backdrop created for the ceremony space and all the little bookish details set out. The ceremony took place in front of the stops of the house which was decorated with pine tree branches, pumpkins, and flowers. It was such a unique and beautiful backdrop. The mood was set by a musician duo, one playing acoustic guitar and the other whistling. Just as golden hour was beginning, Nicole walked out with her dad to the melody of Concerning Hobbits. I have to admit, I've been really loving the ceremony music I've been hearing lately. Alex and Nicole tied the knot on Alex's old fraternity house's porch; it was indeed a beautiful moment. Tears were flowing and laughter bubbled.
After the ceremony, the couple took the time to take group pictures with all their family and friends in attendance, while those who waited for their turn milled about and enjoyed the hors-d'oeuvres, charcuterie boards, and books from the library case set out. Afterward, we headed out for Alex and Nicole's couples portraits at a nearby park where the trees were golden in the sunlight.
After the ceremony and family portraits, the reception started beneath the tent with introductions and the first dance. And then their dearest friends gave speeches that had all the guests roaring with laughter. OV DJ Productions brought the party and kept the dance floor crowded during the reception. Baby-Boyz BBQ provided the catering, which was fantastic as always. Alex and Nicole were an absolute delight, I truly enjoyed documenting their day and the love they share with each other and with their families.
Many happy wishes to Alex and Nicole!
