"He loved October. Had always loved it. There was something sad and beautiful about it--the ending and beginning of things."

—Jacqueline Woodson

It's already October 5th and the end of the day at that. This is what happens, weddings start happening and I just forget about blogging. To be fair, my blogging game has been off all year, which is why I'm only just now getting to this year's work. Hopefully, I can churn out the backlogged blogs before the 2024 wedding season starts. We'll see.

Anyway, it's October. Last month was here and gone in what seems like the blink of an eye. Between the one rehearsal and four weddings we shot, two of my kids were on a float in the homecoming parade, then we did the Tough Mudder (which was definitely one I'll never forget), I had my 34th birthday, my middle child had cheer clinics and then cheered at the Big Red football game against the Wheeling Patriots, my oldest turned 10 and we threw her a birthday party, and then she got to attend the recruitment for the "future best band in Buckeye land." She chose the clarinet. Whew! It's been a whirlwind. And that whole thing about me getting better organized...yeah...not so much. It's all good, there's always......

......December.

I'll get there eventually. It'll just take time, which is currently in short supply. Every spare moment I have this month is devoted to fall festivities with my kids. I missed a lot last October because I was hyperfocused on editing photos, which, don't get me wrong, is definitely something that needs to be done. However, I don't have to burn myself out in order to deliver galleries in a timely manner and I don't have to miss out on all the spooky fun with my kids. I was intent on delivering weeks before contracted due dates, which really just resulted in me working longer hours than necessary. This year, my goal is to not miss out on so much because I'm a workaholic. I don't like admitting it, but that's what I've been and I need to refocus. Time with my kids is limited, so I need to take what I can and treasure it. This is why I have a whole lot of kid events entered into my calendar on the weekdays and trips to pumpkin patches planned for Sundays. Editing will still get done. Galleries will still be delivered within their contracted timeframes, it just won't be the 2-3 week deliveries I was pulling off last year. It's all about balance.

All that to say, getting organized can wait while I spend time enjoying the season with my family. Pumpkin patches, fall festivals, trunk-or-treats, and all the walks with my dog through the autumn woods. We only have this short time left before winter forces us into hibernation, so I'm going to make the most of it.

So, as I get ready to spend the rest of my evening reading with my kids and drinking a hot cup of spiced tea, I'll end this post with a question. What are you doing to make the most out of this fall season?
