"Nostalgia-that's the autumn, dreaming through September. Just a million lovely things I will always remember."

—Jacqueline Kennedy

What's Happening?

Happy birthday month to me and my oldest daughter! I always hold to the technicality that most of September is summer and fall does not start until the equinox on the 23rd. Why? Because I love summer and that I can tell my daughter she was born on the last day of summer. This year, she's turning 10 years old. I can't even believe it. She's such a bright kid and I'm so proud of who she's growing up to be. She loves reading books and wants to celebrate her birthday at the Renaissance Festival. I approve. My birthday is a bit sooner than hers and I've already got my birthday presents. I finally upgraded to a mirrorless camera just in time for all the weddings coming up. That may not mean much to those who aren't photographers, but to me, it's such a big deal. My old DSLR has been a good workhorse for the last 7 years, but it's definitely time for an upgrade.

Aside from birthday celebrations, September is looking to be an interesting month. Rich and I have a group of 13 people participating in this year's Tough Mudder 5k, which is coming up in just a week. I only started training for it within the last two or three weeks, but I'm excited. The kids have been back in school for about a week and a half, so we're all still trying to adjust to our new routines and schedules. While many days it feels like there isn't enough time to get everything done, I'm sure that once we adjust to our schedules, everything will smooth out. The fall transition is always a rough one for us. My kids tend to get antsy by the beginning of August because they really enjoy school and want to go back, but I'm never ready for them to go back. I always feel like I'm trying to hold on to the last rays of summer and the blissful unhurried days with my kids. But fall is all about change. We have to return to school and schedules and responsibilities, and these things are all good. They help us learn how to be productive and good managers of our time. Right now, I'm kind of failing at that, but that's mainly because I haven't found the sweet spot yet. My plan this month is to organize my responsibilities better and make use of the planner that's sitting on my desk collecting dust.

Aside from reorganizing my off time and daily responsibilities, I'm excited about all the weddings coming this month. There are four in the books, so our weekends are packed. We'll be at a variety of locations with a lot of great couples. It's going to be amazing!
